I'm Nicolas Malloy. I've worked in geospatial science and technology since 2007 and taught at Cal Poly Humboldt since 2013. The Geospatial Institute is where I publish educational material drawn from that work
My focus is on cartographic design, remote sensing with drones, programming for geospatial applications (primarily Python), and geographic information systems. Most of what's on this site grew out of my teaching and textbook writing. I've designed award-winning college-level courses for both lower- and upper-division students, and written several textbooks, handling the writing, graphic design, editing, and layout myself.
Everything posted here is meant to be a practical resource, whether for coursework, self-study, or day-to-day reference on the job. The site is a work in progress, with more course materials in development.
